Austrian composer and violist Daniel Oliver Moser (*1982) has had his works commissioned and performed by esteemed artists and ensembles at prestigious concerts and festivals around the world for many years.
From 2018 to 2020, he served as a lecturer at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MuK). From 2020 to 2022, he held a temporary professorship in Composition and Historical Composition Techniques at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (MDW), where he continues to teach as a Senior Lecturer.
Moser’s compositional style is characterized by its poetic exploration of texture and timbre, as well as its rich harmonic language. His music creates immersive and dynamic soundscapes that are both intellectually rigorous and emotionally compelling, drawing listeners into a deeply evocative experience. Alongside his compositional work, Moser is an active violist with a particular focus on contemporary music, performing with ensembles such as Ensemble Zeitfluss and Quasars Ensemble. In 2019, the Austrian National Library and Quasars Ensemble honored him with portrait concerts. In 2023, his music was featured in a composer’s portrait at MusicOlomouc in Olomouc, Czech Republic. His compositions have been recorded by various labels and broadcast by numerous national and international radio stations. Moser studied viola and composition in Klagenfurt, Vienna, and Salzburg, where he worked with renowned composers such as Tristan Murail. Among his many accolades, he received the Theodor Körner Prize in 2012, the Hilde Zach Prize from the City of Innsbruck in 2014, the Austrian START Scholarship for Music in 2010, the Annual Scholarship for Music from the State of Carinthia in 2015, and the Austrian State Scholarship for Composition in 2016.
